Tasting Port wine is an instrumental part of bringing Starboard’s flagship product to life and you’re invited to participate.

When I initially ideated Starboard — a Port wine for the American dinner party — I knew there would be a huge educational hurdle to overcome before I could ever consider bringing a product to market.

The truth is that most American consumers are unfamiliar with Port wine.

But as I like to say:

I don’t think that Port wine is misunderstood among Americans so much as it is undiscovered.

There’s a difference.

This initial tasting experience is all about discovery. It’s an introduction to a few of the main styles of Port wine.

What’s in the box?

Each box features a sampling of fine Ports from Graham’s — one of the oldest and most important names in the Port wine business because in order for the Port wine industry to declare a vintage year, Graham’s must also declare it.

Graham's 1890 Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia is one of the leading wine tourism experiences in Portugal. In other words, it’s a legacy brand that continually produces some of the world’s best Port wines.

Also included in the box is a postcard with instructions on how to submit your tasting notes online. I’ll be collecting your feedback and sharing it across Starboard’s channels — the newsletter and social media. So be sure you’re signed up and following along.

Who gets a box and how do I get one?

Unfortunately, quantities are limited because (surprise) you cannot buy Port wine mini bottles stateside. This sampling kit is shipped directly from Portugal. I will be delivering them to friends and family during the holiday season to start.
